Introduction

The Global Food Laboratory Platform (GFLP) is a food regulatory science initiative developed by the Global Food Regulatory Science Society (GFoRSS) for the food laboratory regulatory community.

It aims to support technology demonstration, application development, food analytical method standardization, competency development and capacity building globally, supporting official food testing.

The GFLP is managed as a public private partnership involving GFoRSS and various technology providers in the areas of food laboratory science who share the same objectives with respect to knowledge generation and knowledge sharing / dissemination related to food regulatory science, supported by the associated technologies.

The GFLP is being developed incrementally by GFoRSS in collaboration with relevant technology providers and will establish several locations to demonstrate food analytical technologies destined to support application development and training, based on agreements developed between GFoRSS and the technology providers joining the GFLP.

Current locations include:

• The Institute of Nutrition and Functional Foods (INAF), Pavillon des Services, Quebec, Canada – North America
• The Military Laboratories for Safety and Quality, Jordanian Armed Forces, Amman, Jordan – Near East

Other locations, under development, include:

• The National Food Safety Institute of Suriname (NIVS) – Paramaribo, Suriname – Caribbean Region
• The Oman Centre of Food Safety and Quality) – Muscat, Sultanate of Oman – Arab Gulf Countries
